Your visit to the University of Birmingham

Our Postgraduate Open Day gives you the opportunity to talk to the experts and find out more about the wide portfolio of taught and research opportunities available to you at the Birmingham. Whatever stage you are at with your career, a visit to the Postgraduate Open Day will clarify your options and help you plan your next step.

The Open Day will give you the opportunity to:

  • Learn more about our postgraduate study and research opportunities for 2010
  • Get Information on hundreds of scholarship and funding opportunities
  • Meet with current students, course directors and admissions staff
  • Visit the Careers Advice Lounge offering one-to-one careers guidance sessions
  • Get expert advice through a programme of presentations, seminars and workshops on topics such as changing to a career in law, teacher training, funding, insiders guide to PhD study and many more
  • Take campus tours

Postgraduate Study Fair

Academic staff, including postgraduate admissions tutors and current postgraduate students from all schools will be available to answer your questions throughout the day. The main focus of the event will be the Postgraduate Study Fair located in the Great Hall, Aston Webb Building on the main Edgbaston Campus. 

Academic Schools will be offering presentations on the postgraduate study options within their academic area. Many of our Schools and departments will also be open to enable you to drop in at times throughout the day to look around and speak to admissions representatives.

General events

A series of short talks will run throughout the day covering a wide range of topics of interest to all students considering postgraduate study, including postgraduate funding, career opportunities, applying for postgraduate study and the wide range of services available to students at Birmingham.

Careers consultation

The Postgraduate Open Day is a great opportunity for careers advice. The Careers Advice Lounge located in the Great Hall, Aston Webb building will provide short advice discussions on any careers related subject. The Advice Lounge works on a drop-in basis whereby you sign-up on the day to see a Careers Adviser. An early sign up is advised to ensure you get seen before the advertised close time. The Careers Centre aim to help graduates at all stages of their career. If you have no idea what you want to do next, the Careers Centre have experienced and specialised careers advisers there to help you.

Tours

Campus tours will run throughout the day, allowing you to experience first hand the delights of our tranquil, picturesque campus.

These tours will start at the Campus Tours Stand, Aston Webb (R6) and finish at Aston Webb (R6). They will run at the following times:

  • 11.30 – 12.30pm
  • 12.30 – 1.30pm
  • 1.30 – 2.30pm
  • 2.30 – 3.30pm

Other opportunities to visit

If you are unable to attend the Postgraduate Open Day, we organise guided tours of the campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the year.
