If you are undertaking research as part of your professional practice, or are planning to embark on a doctoral research degree in Education, you may register specifically for this award and complete a Masters degree in research training. Alternatively, if you are already registered for a doctoral research degree, you may complete the research training modules in this pathway as part of your programme, which may lead to the award of a stand-alone Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma in Research in Education.

The MRes degree comprises one year full-time or two years part-time study following a pathway of six modules and a dissertation (180 credits in total). Modules will include:

  • Introducing Research in Education
  • Education Research and the Researcher
  • Identity and Epistemology
  • Designing Research and Using Methodology in Education
  • Using Sources/Producing Analysis in Research Method
  • Using and Producing Research in Education
  • Educational Research Design/Study

A dissertation is also required reporting upon a piece of research in the applied discipline of Educational Studies.
