The University of Birmingham collaborates and engages with other leading institutions across the globe. We have a wide range of agreements with institutions in over thirty countries and our extensive partnerships provide opportunities for students at Birmingham to enjoy a fully international experience.
We work closely with our partners to facilitate opportunities for international engagement for both staff and students through exchange arrangements, provision of transnational education, and the sharing of research expertise.
Birmingham is host to students from partner institutions across the globe who contribute to the international ethos of the campus, and through a number of our global partnerships, students are able to study part of a programme in their home country before completing a programme at Birmingham.
Our growing number of our exchange partnerships in continental Europe, Australia, New Zealand, north and south America, mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Japan and Ghana, provide the opportunity for students at Birmingham to spend part of their programme overseas.
The University of Birmingham is proud to be a founder member of Universitas 21; an international network of 21 leading research-intensive universities across thirteen countries.
The network's purpose is to facilitate collaboration and cooperation between the member universities and to create opportunities for them on a scale that none of them would be able to achieve operating independently or through traditional bilateral alliances.
This in turn creates exciting international opportunities for our students, including participating in activities such as Summer Schools, research conferences which are held annually at different partner institutions. It also provides opportunities for global mobility and exchange.
The University of Birmingham offers support for students to help them participate in U21 activities. A number of travel bursaries are provided for outstanding undergraduate students wishing to participate in the Exchange programme with U21 partners. The University also provides a number of scholarships for PhD students wishing to visit a U21 partner, as well as a small number of scholarships for Masters students from U21 partners wishing to spend time at Birmingham as part of their studies
